Welcome to our Gallery

This includes our Events, Parades, and Missions

Bicentennial Parade

We were asked to present a float in the parade.  We had a float representing all of the wars.  Each soldier was dressed in the uniform of that war.  The women dressed in the dresses of the soldier they were with.  We had everyone thing from the American Revolution to the present represented.  Others marched behind the float dressed in the uniforms and dresses of the Civil war.
This float and costumes were used in a parade in Cortland, Homer, and Marathon also over the years since. The members of each part of the  Legion Family participated.  The costumes were made by an auxiliary member.

Missions

Each Christmas our Legion Family sponsors several Goodwill Projects.  We doing bell ringing for our local Salvation Army.  We cover stores all over the town.   We also put together and deliver fruit baskets to our "older" members.

Auxiliary members make lap blankets that are delivered to the VA home.  We also collect food for several local needy families at Thanksgiving time and Christmas time.  At Christmas time we provide gifts for all of the children in these families.   Auxiliary members also send Christmas packages to our military men and women serving our country.

Toys for Tots

We sponsor a Toys for Tots box in our Legion.   We have no trouble filling it several times.

Parades

We march in the State Convention Parade, Goodwill Days, Homer Memorial Parade, Groton Old Home Days Parade, and the Homer Firemen's Field Days Parade.   The later one is a fun parade and we wear shorts and sparkly hats!

Several times a year we offer a Chicken Bar-bque to our community.   The men cook the chicken and our Auxiliary makes the salads, potatoes, and holds a bake sale.

On St Patrick's Day we offer a Ham and Cabbage or Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner.

The proceeds from these events go into our general fund which helps defray the costs of parades and conventions

Our Poppy Chairman was very busy this past year.  We had several Junior members march with us wearing blue and white with a Poppy sash carrying poppies in our Memorial Day parade.

She also conducted a Poppy Poster contest in our local Elementary school.  This year it will expand to all of the schools and the winners will also be marching with us on Memorial Day.

WinterFest

Each year our village holds a Winterfest.  On Friday night we sponsor a community dance.  It is held in our hall and we provide refreshments.

On Saturday we host a Wine Tasting in our hall.  The auxiliary provide snacks to put out during the event.

We also raffle off  Valentine Baskets during the Wine Tasting.

The Auxiliary Color Guard

In 2012 Ann Geer, Department President at that time, asked our post to form an Auxiliary Color Guard that would lead her in the State Convention Parade.  We also presented the colors at several Auxiliary gatherings.  In the parade we received First Place as a district Color Guard.  This year we have been asked to continue and lead the 6th District in the parade.  We were very honored by this.  We will also be leading the Auxiliary in our local Memorial Parade.
